Lighting
For our movie, we made a deliberate choice to utilize low-key lighting, believing it would best suit the tone and atmosphere we aim to convey. As an action film, we feel that a darker aesthetic enhances the thematic elements and amplifies the intensity of the narrative. High-key lighting, while often used to create a bright and cheerful ambiance, would dramatically alter the setting, potentially leading the audience to misinterpret the film's overall mood and nature.
Given that we are only filming a two-minute segment, every detail in our presentation and story setup is crucial for maintaining cohesion. Our chosen location, a series of dimly lit corridors, offers an ideal backdrop. The space is characterized by flickering light bulbs strung across the ceiling, which not only casts shadows but also adds an element of unpredictability. This flickering effect can create a palpable sense of suspense, perfectly setting the stage for our opening scene where Abby and Emma make their entrance, ultimately escalating into a gripping fight sequence.
These lighting choices are intentional, crafted to immerse the audience right from the start. By establishing the correct tone with low-key lighting, we aim to cultivate an engaging experience that resonates throughout the film. Our goal is to draw the audience in, encouraging them to invest in the story we are telling. To illustrate the impact of the flickering lights, we have included a video showcasing this practical effect in action, which we believe enhances the suspenseful atmosphere we aim to achieve.
